The River Welland at Stamford

Some 20 miles downstream of Market Harborough comes Stamford. The Welland is considerably larger by then, and beyond Stamford it was canalised in the 17th century - a century before the dawn of the conventional canal age.

Downstream of Stamford are Spalding and the Wash. There is more about the river on the Welland Rivers Trust site.
